Syringe Pump Linear Modules

Build the plunger-drive brief around force and displacement

Syringe pump linear modules combine a controlled drive with a plunger interface and syringe support. For an OEM laboratory mechanism, the mechanical review starts with usable plunger travel, axial force and the relationship between measured displacement and the selected syringe. This page addresses the drive integration, not clinical dosing instructions.

The first design decision

Can the mechanical module reproduce the required plunger displacement under your actual load and fixture conditions?

A useful starting point for

  • OEM laboratory syringe-drive mechanisms for dispensing and research instruments.
  • Prototype platforms comparing screw-driven plunger motion with an existing control system.

Define these boundaries

  • Commanded motor steps do not establish delivered fluid volume or flow accuracy in the complete system.
  • Syringe compatibility, fluid-path behavior and device-level functions require their own validation; no clinical-performance claim is made.

Configuration choices and required evidence

Use this matrix to compare candidate configurations. Entries describe decisions to make and evidence to request; they are not unverified product ratings.

Agree on prototype acceptance before sampling

  1. 01

Freeze the syringe and fixture boundary

Identify the syringe family, attachment details and dimensional variations. Verify that the fixture supports the barrel and plunger without unwanted side load.

  2. 02

    Measure mechanical motion independently

Compare commanded motion with actual plunger displacement at representative force and speed. Include startup, reversal and end-of-travel behavior.

  3. 03

    Separate module and instrument acceptance

Define mechanical-module tests first, then the OEM calibration and complete fluid-system evaluation. Assign responsibility for each dataset and controlled document.

Define the inspection and release package before fixing the sample acceptance criteria.

Engineering FAQ

Can motor step count be used as delivered-volume proof?

No. It describes a command to the motion system. Delivered volume depends on actual plunger displacement, syringe geometry and the complete fluid system. The OEM needs a separate calibration and verification method.

Can the module fit different syringe sizes?

Provide each syringe drawing and the intended changeover method. Barrel support, flange retention, plunger attachment, travel and load may change; a shared module must be assessed against all proposed configurations.

What belongs in the first RFQ?

Include syringe and fixture drawings, usable travel, required displacement behavior, a representative force profile, the controller interface and the module-versus-instrument test boundary. Quantities and desired milestones help define the prototype scope.
