Ultra Micro Planetary Roller Screws

Start miniature roller-screw design with the load path

Ultra micro planetary roller screws are a transmission-development topic before they are a finished actuator selection. Threaded rollers transfer motion between the screw and nut. At a small scale, the nut envelope, bearing arrangement, alignment and assembly access can decide feasibility before a nominal screw diameter does.

Request the applicable drawing / CAD revision

This is a configuration review, not a stocked SKU listing. Ratings, documentation availability, sample scope and lead time are confirmed for the reviewed design.

The first design decision

Does the complete supported screw assembly fit, including the nut, bearings, guidance and useful travel?

A useful starting point for

  • Custom robotic axes where transmission packaging is reviewed alongside motor selection.
  • Development programs that can define bearing seats, anti-rotation and lubrication access early.

Define these boundaries

  • No minimum diameter, load rating or lifetime is implied by the term ultra micro; feasibility is reviewed against the proposed geometry.
  • A bare screw assembly is not a guided actuator and should not be treated as a support for unspecified side loads or moments.

Configuration choices and required evidence

Use this matrix to compare candidate configurations. Entries describe decisions to make and evidence to request; they are not unverified product ratings.

Agree on prototype acceptance before sampling

  1. 01

    Review the section first

Submit an assembly section with the available outer envelope rather than only a target screw diameter. Identify the moving and rotating members.

  2. 02

    Separate ratings from requirements

Record the load spectrum and life objective as buyer inputs. Request the calculation basis and applicable limits for the proposed transmission.

  3. 03

    Release interfaces before sampling

Agree on end machining, nut mounting, lubrication and inspection points. Freeze the drawing revision used for both the sample and its evaluation.

Define the inspection and release package before fixing the sample acceptance criteria.

Engineering FAQ

Do you publish a smallest roller-screw diameter?

A minimum size is not published here because manufacturing feasibility depends on lead, nut geometry, end machining and the required load path. Send the envelope and operating conditions for a configuration review.

Should I choose a roller screw or a ball screw?

Compare candidate assemblies using the same load spectrum, travel, envelope, stiffness and maintenance constraints. Architecture names alone do not establish which assembly meets your application or total cost target.

Can I request a bare transmission rather than a complete actuator?

Yes, describe the supply boundary in the RFQ. Identify which party supplies the bearings, motor, coupling, guides and lubrication system, and include the interface drawings needed to assess compatibility.
